The birth of the business

The first time I ever laid eyes on a Neapolitan Mastiff was on my tiny bedroom TV while watching the 2007 Eukanuba Dog Show. I was only 10 years old at the time, but the memory of the bodacious, majestic, and wrinkly pair of blue neos in the show ring has stayed with me ever since. I told myself in the moment, “I’ll own one of those one day!”

Fast forward about 9 years later, I was living alone and I wanted to finally take the plunge and find me a giant breed dog. At the time, I didn’t know anyone breeding Neos. I opted into a hybrid mastiff (3/4 Cane Corso 1/4 English Mastiff) instead. This dog, Donovan, was the mast amazing dog I’ve ever owned. He was so smart, I never really had to do any strenuous training, he just GOT IT! That’s where my love for the Cane Corso and CC hybrid began. It was just the two of us for quite a while, which gave me so much time to really understand what it means to own a mastiff. I had no idea what it took to be a breeder, or how to start and run a business, but I knew I wanted to give the world the chance at owning and loving a mastiff the way I loved Donovan.
I spent 5 years researching, planning, and preparing to become a breeder. Sometime within those 5 years I had a very vivid dream and in the dream someone asked me the name of my business and I replied “Paragon Mastiffs.” That was the first time I ever heard the word Paragon and also the first time I called my business by its name! Naming my business was where the real work began. This was the point where everything went from a childhood dream and an adulthood plan, to a business venture, huge investment, and sole priority in my life. I moved to Graysville, TN with my partner Jordan, and began putting the pieces together.

As I started expanding, I purchased some purebred Cane Corsos, purebred Neapolitan Mastiffs, and a couple of hybrid mastiffs. I found the nicest and healthiest stock I could for my budget, and I started raising and training a pack of puppies! Mastiffs were always part of the plan, but one breed was not— the Great Dane. I never had any plans to own a Great Dane, as I didn’t know anything about them. I had never been exposed to a Dane long enough to get any sort of an opinion, I knew they were regal and beautiful, but nothing more than that! In an unplanned event, I was given an AKC Great Dane by my good friend… and to say I was immediately HOOKED would be an understatement. As of today, I own more Danes than I do Mastiffs!
All of the breeds I have here carry their own attributes and each dog brings something unique to my program. Purebred mastiffs, purebred Great Danes, hybrid mastiffs, and Daniffs produced by me are created from strategic planning with a specific goal and outcome in mind. The breeding dogs I have here are genetically health tested, structurally sound, and temperamentally stable. My dogs are my pets first and my business partners second. We work together, my dogs don’t work for me.

I left the workforce to be home full-time with my dogs to ensure they all get the maximum amount of daily exercise, food on a schedule, bonding time with me, their cages cleaned throughout the day, and all of their needs met. Ofcourse when I have puppies here, it is imperative that I am home to monitor and care for the puppies around the clock.
Paragon Mastiffs is still a young entity, but it has already surpassed the yearly goals and expectations I set for myself in my 5-year-startup plan. I look forward to continuing to invest in my business and my dogs, building my brand, and meeting new clients.
